Lyssa & Josh Engagement Session
On December 14, 2018 I had the pleasure of meeting Lyssa & Josh for their engagement shoot at Riverside Farm in North Berwick, Maine. Lyssa was interested in finding a Christmas Tree farm for their shots, and just after speaking with her about it I drove by the perfect location, complete with hanging strings lights! Riverside Farm staff was very cooperative and friendly in letting us use their property for a shoot, and they also make an incredible pot pie (yummm)!
This shot is one of my favorites from the session. The string lights, backlight, Christmas trees, and of course Lyssa’s lovely outfit all come together to complete this shot.
After meeting with Lyssa to discuss her upcoming wedding and engagement shoot, I could tell she was a fan of the backlit photos. I am also a fan! They capture a magical quality and can sometimes look straight out of a fairytale.
Gear Talk: To properly backlight and trigger I used 2 Canon 430 EX IIs and 3 Cactus V6 II Transceivers, one on each flash and on the camera. This allowed me to quickly adjust each unit from the camera to easily vary the lighting for the scene. To diffuse the light and navigate the tight spaces of the tree farm I used a couple of white umbrellas.
Just a week away from the winter solstice, we had a short window of daylight, and there was a deep chill in the air. These two were champs though, and aside from taking a quick break inside to warm up, we powered through and got some great shots! We all had some fun, shared some laughs, and captured the special love that these two share.
More Gear Talk: For this entire session I shot on my trusty pair of Canon 6Ds, one mounted with a Canon 24-105mm f4L and the other with a Canon 85mm f1.2L II.
Lyssa and Josh’s upcoming October wedding will also be in Maine, and I’m beyond excited to photograph it! Below is a sample gallery from our engagement session of just some of the shots we got. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and on Facebook! Enjoy!
